PREVIEW OF UA VOCAL MUSIC EVENTS FOR THE 2010 - 2011 SCHOOL YEAR!
The UA Vocal Music Department will be performing the Broadway version of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" on December 2-5, 2010.
This year's Fall Follies will be called "February Follies" and will take place on February 18 - 20, 2011.
  
WOMEN'S AND MEN'S GLEE/CHORUS - AUGUST 30, 31
Women's Glee/Chorus starts on Monday, August 30 in the auditorium. Men's Glee/Chorus starts on Tuesday, August 31 in room 181.

Membership in Men's and Women's Glee is designed for 9th and 10th graders, and Men's and Women's Chorus is comprised of 11th and 12th graders. The course is designed to address the intermediate level of vocal technique and musicianship. Men's Glee and Women's Glee are a great answer for students whose schedule is completely full but still want to be involved in a singing ensemble. The courses meet 2 days a week before school. This also enables members of the orchestra and band department to be involved in choral music. Literature is chosen specifically for SSA, SSAA, TTB or TTBB voices. The Men's and Women's Glee will perform at the choral concerts and district/state contests throughout the year. See your counselor to add it to your schedule.

   
CHORAL GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

Pictures of all choral groups, portraits of seniors, and individual portraits (as desired) will be taken by Portraits by Lisa on Sunday, September 26 at the school. Lisa has been our photographer for 3 years, and we believe you will be pleased with her photographs and service. All group photos and senior portraits will again be published in the ENCORE program.

Please see the order form included in your newsletter or print it here. Payment & Order Forms are due on day of pictures. Mark your calendar & have student wear appropriate attire as indicated by their director.

Print the Emergency Medical Form that is required for all choral students to complete before the summer retreat.   
    
REMINDER ABOUT COMMUNICATIONS!

The communication committee will maintain a database of all students enrolled in the choral program and contact parents and students keeping them up to date about Choral information and Vocal Music Booster activities. We will use e-mail as our primary communication with you.

In order to keep the lines of communications going, we need to keep our database current, so please be sure that we have your student's name and address, as well as phone numbers and e-mail addresses (please provide BOTH the STUDENT'S and the PARENT'S phone numbers and e-mail addresses). This information should be provided on the vocal music contract signed by you and your student at the beginning of the school year.

HOWEVER, to insure that we have your correct email address you may email Dina Giddens with the information. In the subject line write UAVMB contact. In the body of the email provide the parent's first & last name, student's first & last name, choral group(s) they participate in, your phone number & both parent & student email addresses. A UAVMB department directory will be distributed to all students in late fall. If you DO NOT have email or DO NOT wish to be contacted this way, please call Dina Giddens at 246-8932, and we will contact you with information another way as best we can.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

We want to express our congratulations to Amber Bruns, the 2010 recipient of the Keith Krieger Award. The Keith Krieger Award was established by friends and family in memory of Keith Krieger, who was a member of the UAHS Class of 1976. This fund awards an annual music scholarship for a student who will continue in the performing arts in higher education. Vocal music and/or piano will be given priority.

We also congratulate Deb Stype and Lauri Myer, the recipient of the Outstanding Booster Award for 2009 - 2010. Deb and Lauri co-chaired the Tickets Committee.

   
SYMPHONIC CHOIR EAST COAST TOUR

The dates for this year's Symphonic Choir East Coast Tour are March 30 - April 4, 2011. A mandatory Symphonic Choir Tour Parent Meeting will be held on Monday, September 13 at 6:45 PM

WE know that the vocal music performances are great! Now we need to be sure the whole community knows!! Please help get the word out. The Boosters need YOUR help to organize the distribution of yard signs, flyers, and sandwich boards. We also need help getting the word to retirement homes, senior centers and other groups who would love to see the shows.
